This seal will offer verification of compliance with FERPA and other student privacy laws. This verification will be in addition to certification of adherence to a baseline set of online safety best practices established by kidSAFE, hence the + symbol.
This seal will be achieved and maintained through annual FERPA and online safety auditing and testing, ongoing compliance monitoring, display of the kidSAFE+ EDU CERTIFIED Seal (once earned), and commitment to resolve any relevant consumer-reported concerns.
Who is this Seal for?
This regulatory compliance seal is intended for any online product regulated by the U.S. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and related student privacy laws (SOPIPA, PPRA, etc.). FERPA applies to ed-tech solutions used by schools and other educational institutions, and imposes privacy restrictions on the ways that these solutions can use and disclose the student data that schools provide to them. FERPA compliance is typically a prerequisite before education technology can be used in schools. This seal is ideal for the following types of products/companies.
Educational and Learning Products
Ed-tech products and platforms providing student learning experiences (e.g., homework apps, study tools, educational games, online courses, tutoring platforms, collaboration apps, interactive learning devices, etc.)
